McDonald’s will soon be the newest entrant into the Kenyan market with its first outlet expected to be in the capital, Nairobi. This comes at a time when many other major brands like Subway and Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) have already set up shop in the nation.
McDonald’s are establishing themselves in Kenya, in a period of time that has seen several pre-established brands ramp up their growth plans. McDonald’s is one of the world’s leading restaurant chains and serves around 69 million customers on a daily basis worldwide.
The first McDonald’s store in Kenya is expected to open within six months as part of a franchising system.
McDonald’s has already begun inviting potential investors to submit applications for new franchises; this has been the strongest sign yet of their intent in establishing themselves in Kenya. Other renowned brands like Subway and Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) have been working on plans to further grow their business in the nation.
According to sources, the first McDonald’s restaurant in Kenya will be opened at a Total Fuel station on Dennis Pritt road in Kilimani Estate, Nairobi Area.
This news broke almost 3 year after investors were invited to put in applications for franchising in Kenya.
The official statement from McDonald’s stated “We are looking for investors who have retail experience and willingness to devote full time to the McDonald’s restaurant business, knowledge of the real estate market (and) significant capital. We will retain all information sent to us in a database and give you consideration if we take steps to develop McDonald’s restaurants in Kenya.”
The restaurant chain’s chief executive earlier in the year announced McDonald’s plans to expand into the untapped market in Africa but did not provide a timeline or any details.
