The De Wildt PV solar power plant is operational. With a capacity of 50 MWp, the plant is owned by a consortium consisting of Zolograph Investments, African Infrastructure Investment Managers, African Rainbow Energy and Power, Reatile Group and Phakwe Solar.
South Africa’s North West Province is delivering a new green power plant. The recently commissioned De Wildt PV Solar Park is located in Brits, Madibeng Municipality. The plant consists of around 169,140 solar panels capable of producing 50 MWp. The production is fed into the South African national electricity grid via the Zolograph substation owned by Eskom.
The South African state owned company is responsible for the production of the solar power plant under a 20 year power purchase agreement signed with its owner De Wildt Solar. The company set up to develop this renewable energy project is owned by Zolograph Investments; African Infrastructure Investment Managers, a member of Old Mutual Alternative Investments; African Rainbow Energy and Power, Reatile Group and Phakwe Solar. The work on the plant was carried out by the Cobra Energia, a Spanish company.
The project is being developed in the framework of the 4th round of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement tendering process. As a part of this comprehensive South African government plan, several clean energy facilities have been built in the North West Province of South Africa. This is the case of the Zeerust PV solar power plant with a capacity of 75 MWp.
The South African government aims to continue developing its electricity infrastructure with a particular focus on renewable energy. The long-term goal is to increase the country’s installed capacity while reducing Carbon dioxide emissions. Initiatives such as Renewable Energy Independent Power Procurement Programme are making a major contribution to this.
