Last year, Toyota Kirloskar Motor agreed to use the brand’s global product-sharing arrangement with Suzuki to launch the Urban Cruiser in India. The Urban Cruiser is essentially a rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, which is one of the country’s best-selling sub-4m SUVs.
Toyota has now released the Urban Cruiser in South Africa, with a starting price of R247,900 (roughly Rs 12.13 lakh in Indian currency). The car will be available in three different versions: Xi, Xs, and Xr. Keyless entry with push-button start/stop, automatic windows, air conditioning, tilt-adjustable steering wheel, electrically-adjustable mirrors, LED headlamps, and LED DRLs are all standard on the entry-level Xi trim.
Alloy wheels, roof rails, body-colored door handles, power-retractable mirrors, and a rear window wiper with demister feature are included in the mid-level Xs model. This model includes automatic climate control, a rearview camera, and a second glove compartment in the cabin..
LED fog lights, automatic headlights, cruise control, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, rain-sensing wipers, dual 12-volt power outlets, a front armrest, a leather steering wheel, and two tweeter speakers are included in the top-of-the-line Xr model. The top-of-the-line Xr trim with the AT transmission will set you back R 315,700. (INR 15.45 lakh).
ABS and EBD, side security beams, driver and passenger airbags, ISOFIX child-seat anchorages, an alarm and immobiliser system, and reverse parking sensors are all standard features across the range.
A 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with 105 PS of maximum power and 138 Nm of peak torque powers the Urban Cruiser in South Africa. The engine is available with a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
