BEKA Schreder provided the LED lighting solution for this improvement, which helped to raise the two towns and improve night-time safety in the area.
The little village of Ashton has just upgraded its streetlighting. This coincided with the construction of the new Ashton Arch Bridge, which is the first concrete tied arch bridge built in South Africa utilising the transverse launching method.
The bridge connects Ashton and Montagu and is located on Main Road, across the Cogmanskloof River. It also marks the start of “Route 62,” an important tourist destination and national road. To replace the old bridge, which was built in the 1930s, thousands of tonnes of metal and concrete were lifted over a 24-meter span.
The floodlights FOCUS and LEDSTREAM illuminate the bridge’s arch. These floodlights were designed and constructed in South Africa, with the harsh environmental conditions of the continent in mind. LED technology provides substantial energy savings, superb colour rendering, a long lifetime, and lower maintenance expenses.
BEKA Schreder’s LEDLUME-MAXI has been installed on the bridge’s road and most of Ashton’s important roads. This LED streetlight, designed and manufactured in South Africa, offers all of the benefits of LED technology. To further maximise energy savings and give the most cost-effective solution, the LEDLUME series offers variable combinations of LED modules, a choice of currents, and dimming choices.
Montagu is a renowned tourist resort in the Western Little Karoo, located 12 kilometres north-east of Ashton. It is also an agricultural centre and is famed for its hot mineral springs and scenic mountains.

The ALBANY LED streetlight luminaire is designed to provide a touch of heritage with current technology, inspired by Victorian lanterns.
