IW Mining, a highly skilled mining contractor from South Africa, and Akobo Minerals, a Scandinavian-based Ethiopian gold exploration and boutique mining business, have agreed to manage the underground mine at Segele.
Through this key arrangement, Akobo Minerals is guaranteed access to staff and mining expertise for the Segele gold mine. Prior to the agreement’s signature, IW Mining and the parties involved had already done a significant amount of planning and preparation. The sourcing of mining equipment has already started, and the first shipments will leave soon. Within a few weeks, IW Mining will organise a skilled mining team from South Africa to visit to Segele.
The final piece of the puzzle was bringing IW Mining on board, according to Jørgen Evjen, CEO of Akobo Minerals. We have now acquired the essential knowledge to begin mining, working with Solo Resources for plant production. Our businesses deliver world-class projects responsibly by adhering to the same values and philosophies.
“Our goal has always been to give a degree of service that transcends the typical contractual Scope of Work,” said Ian Lowers, CEO of IW Mining Services. This contract with Akobo Minerals in Ethiopia represents a significant turning point for IW Mining Services in keeping with our expansion plan. IW Mining Services, a responsible partner in mining innovation, has fully committed itself to guaranteeing the success of this special initiative. We think that this mining endeavour marks the start of Akobo Minerals and IW Mining Services’ strategic multiparty relationship in Ethiopia.
IW Mining will hire and educate a sizable number of Ethiopian employees who will work in the Segele mine in accordance with the company’s ESG policies.
