As part of this collaboration, East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Ltd is joining the Running Out of Trees (ROOTS) campaign, aligning with its commitments outlined in the EACOP Uganda Environmental & Social Impact Assessment (ESIA). Through this partnership, EACOP will collaborate with implementing partners to plant indigenous and fruit trees on various institutional lands, including schools, churches, and the Bunyoro and Buganda Kingdoms, across the 10 EACOP host districts.
Mr. Martin Tiffen, Managing Director of EACOP, expressed enthusiasm for this initiative, emphasizing its harmony with the company’s dedication to environmental protection and community engagement. Mr. Alfred Okot Okidi, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE), affirmed the Ministry’s support, highlighting its role in mitigating anticipated impacts and ensuring the success of conservation efforts within the project’s area of influence. The signing ceremony, marking the launch of the ROOTS campaign, concluded with a tree planting event at the Ministry’s premises.
