Makerere University Uganda Acquires Portable Light Testing Equipment

Makerere University recently received portable lighting test equipment from the East African Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy and Efficiency (EACREEE). This equipment was handed over by Canon Goddy Muhanguzi Muhumuza, Executive Director of EACREEE, to Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Buyinza Mukadasi. Present at the event were University Secretary Mr. Yusuf Kiranda, Principal of CEDAT Prof. Moses Musinguzi, Dean of the School of Engineering Prof. Dorothy Okello, and EACREEE/EELA officials.

The equipment, to be managed by the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT), will help screen lighting products for compliance with national regulations and regional energy standards developed by the Energy Efficient Lighting and Appliances (EELA) project. EACREEE Executive Director Canon Muhumuza emphasized that the project aims to strengthen the capacity of institutions in East and Southern Africa to promote energy-efficient lighting and appliances.

The EELA project, funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and implemented by UNIDO, supports private sector-led activities. Prof. Buyinza thanked Sida and the project’s partners, noting the benefits to Makerere University in monitoring energy standards.
