According to reports, the Sixth Phase Government, led by H.E. President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, allocated 45.6 billion Shillings to implement five (5) projects with the assistance of the World Bank through the emergency program (CERC PROJECTS).
The projects consist of the Kyanyabasa Bridge (105 meters), Kalebe Bridge (60 meters), Kyetema Bridge (45 meters), Kamishango Bridge (45 meters) and Kanino Bridge (30 meters), as well as connected roads that will be completed over the course of a year.
Engineer Godfrey Kasekenya, Deputy Minister of Works, made this statement on January 12, 2025. That he would like to thank H.E. President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for approving to allocate funding of 45.6 billion shillings for the construction of these projects that were damaged by the El-Nino rains.
Furthermore, Engineer Kasekenya stated that once emergency projects commence construction, they do not stop since they are conducted on a priority basis and wrapped up within the 12-month time frame while maintaining quality and high standards. He also requested that trustworthy local contractors be entrusted to complete these important projects on schedule and with high quality.
In turn, Dr. Jason Rweikiza, Member of Parliament for Bukoba Rural, expressed gratitude to His Excellency President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for taking the initiative to allocate funds for the construction of the projects that were affected by the El-Nino rains, stating that the completion of these emergency projects will assist Bukoba citizens in town and rural areas in traversing these bridges from one area to another.
Engineer Ntuli Mwaikokesya, TANROADS Manager, Kagera Region, stated that these initiatives are part of the government’s efforts to upgrade transportation infrastructure and ensure sustainable growth for the people of Kagera region.
