Kenya Launches Stakeholder Forum on Health Governance

Establishing the stakeholder forum on health care governance in Kenya, ICJ Kenya laid the groundwork for the creation of the “Afya Bora Platform,” a platform specifically designed to support ongoing conversations on healthcare governance in Kenya.

The platform seeks to bring together a wide range of stakeholders, such as individuals, civil society, healthcare experts, and legislators, in order to improve governance frameworks and address healthcare issues.”This forum will provide a dynamic environment for citizens, civil society organizations, healthcare professionals, and policymakers to have meaningful conversations, exchange ideas, and suggest creative solutions to current issues in the healthcare industry,” stated Eric Mukoya, executive director of ICJ Kenya.

Additionally, the engagements seek to promote cooperative methods to improve governance frameworks, encourage accountability, and guarantee that all Kenyans have fair access to healthcare services.

In his introductory remarks, ICJ Kenya Executive Director Eric Mukoya stated that the right to health is a fundamental guarantee and not merely an ideal. Every individual has the right to the best possible standard of health, which includes access to medical treatment, according to Article 43(1)(a) of the Kenyan Constitution.

“International legal instruments, such as the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), further reinforce this,” he stated.

The significance of inclusive stakeholder participation in tackling systemic health governance issues is highlighted by international and regional best practices.

In light of this, ICJ Kenya aims to advance the discussion of health governance in Kenya in order to address these urgent problems, encourage communication between important players and map out a course for better healthcare governance.
