Nairobi and Baku Sign a Memorandum of Understanding to Expand Their Energy Partnership

Kenya and Azerbaijan have begun a new chapter in their bilateral ties with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in the energy sector.

“The Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum in Kenya, James Opiyo Wandayi, and Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister, Parviz Shahbazov, had a virtual meeting. The Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum of the Republic of Kenya signed a Memorandum of Understanding on partnership in the energy sector during the meeting.”

Along with boosting collaborative investments and the development of energy infrastructure, specifically the upgrading of energy networks, the Minister also pointed out that the document envisions collaboration in the areas of oil and gas, including LNG, electricity, and renewable energy.

In order to improve access to new markets and broaden the geographic scope of Azerbaijan’s energy cooperation, the Minister underlined that this proposal is a significant step.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is significant because it represents Azerbaijan’s ongoing aim to broaden its international energy alliances while providing Kenya with chances to take use of Azerbaijan’s experience in both traditional and renewable energy sectors.
