Uganda and Kenya will collaborate to grow the steel sector and Busia City

In an effort to strengthen their cooperation, Uganda and Kenya have inked eight Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs).The MoUs provide a comprehensive approach to bilateral cooperation and cover a variety of topics, such as trade, immigration, transportation, and cultural exchange.

According to Uganda’s Ministry of East African Community Affairs, these accords spur inclusive development throughout the region in addition to strengthening the institutional frameworks supporting Kenya-Uganda relations.

The occasion came after President Yoweri Museveni and host William Ruto held bilateral meetings at State House in Nairobi, when the Kenyan president announced that the largest steel project in the area will begin building in Uganda later this year.

He claims that Uganda will supply the raw materials, while Kenyan investors will build the facility. A long-standing alliance between Kenya and Uganda is based on shared values, a great deal of respect, and a desire for peace and advancement in the region.

Eight new Memoranda of Understanding have been signed, which not only improves our collaboration but also boosts economic growth, builds interpersonal relationships, and guarantees that our partnerships serve our citizens in real ways, Ruto stated. In order to foster trade, Ruto stated that the two nations are dedicated to working together to transform the shared metropolitan area of Busia into a cutting-edge one-stop metropolis. According to him, the project will begin this year and last for three years.

While denouncing the cross-border limitations, President Museveni’s primary focus was on expanding production and establishing markets as the sole path to prosperity.
