Tanzania Invites Japanese Firms to Invest in Mining, Agriculture & Infrastructure Sector

Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, has invited Japanese investors to explore major investment opportunities in Tanzania according to the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, particularly in key development sectors such as agriculture, industrial production, mining, equipment technology, and infrastructure. During his tour to Japan, Minister Kombo extended an invitation while meeting with the Japan Association for Infrastructure Development (JAIDA), which represents over 190 companies. He also met with the co-chairs of the Africa Committee of the Japan Federation of Economic Organisations (KEIDANREN), which represents over 1,500 enterprises.

In his engagements, Minister Kombo emphasised Tanzania’s commitment to deepening strategic cooperation with Japan, adding that such collaboration represents Japan and Africa’s broader development partnership. He emphasised Tanzania’s readiness to receive large-scale investments, particularly in signature infrastructure projects such as the extension of the Dar es Salaam Port and phases six and seven of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR). The minister also emphasised the need for growing Tanzania’s human capital through educational and professional collaboration, as well as the interchange of technology, skills, and knowledge in industries such as manufacturing, agriculture, and infrastructure. For their side, Japanese investors indicated a strong desire to increase their involvement with Tanzania and committed to seize any chances for mutual benefit through PPP ventures.
