In partnership with the Ministry of Education, the Schneider Electric Foundation is equipping six Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions with green energy technologies, thereby advancing Kenya’s efforts to prepare its youth for upcoming job opportunities.
The institutions, namely Kabete, Kisumu, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Kiambu, and Eldoret national polytechnics, have been equipped with Hybrid Solar Home Systems and EVlink Pro Electric Vehicle Charging Systems to offer students practical training in renewable energy and electric mobility.
The initiative forms a component of Schneider Electric’s worldwide goal to educate one million individuals and 10,000 trainers in sustainable energy, with East Africa already having 25,000 beneficiaries recorded. In Kenya, the program aims to empower 14,000 students during its initial phase.
A subsequent phase will implement Augmented Reality (AR) laboratories within the institutions, allowing students to engage with real-time energy management systems while improving their skills for international green job prospects.
“Currently, we are engaged with public TVET institutions, in collaboration with the State Department, to equip an additional 14,000 students with hands-on training in sustainable energy solutions,” highlighted Ifeanyi Odoh, Country President of Schneider Electric East Africa.
These institutions now incorporate two cutting-edge systems: the Hybrid Solar Home System, which offers practical experience in solar energy integration, hybrid inverters, smart panels, and energy storage, and the EVlink Pro Electric Vehicle Charging System, which readies students for the future of electric mobility and sustainable transportation.
