Targeting 474 hamlets in Tanzania’s Kagera Region, the Rural Energy Agency (REA) has started an innovative organization electricity transmission project. This is a daring move to broaden rural energy lighting access and open up economic opportunities for thousands of people.
CCC International Engineering Nigeria Ltd. is carrying out the enormous project, which is a component of Tanzania’s national ambition to electrify the entire country by 2030. Earlier this week, Kagera Region Area Governor Commander Yahaya Ramadhani Kido met with the contractor’s team and REA engineers, requesting prompt and excellent execution to fulfill the increasing energy lighting needs of rural areas.
The project will entail the set-up of 474 transformers in addition to the building of 737.3 meters of high-voltage lines and 76 meters of lower-voltage lines, estimates Engineer Ernest Makale, REA’s Lake Zone Project Manager. The project, which has been given about 66 billion Tanzanian shillings, intends for linking 15,396 new subscribers across Kagera in 36 months.
A comparable lighting project that REA is working on supplying electricity to 27 island settlements in Lake Victoria is also almost finished. It is anticipated that the initiative will raise living standards and boost economic activity in isolated island settlements.
This initiative, which is being funded by the Tanzanian government in collaboration with the World Bank, aims to generate electricity opportunities as well as light homes by boosting small and medium-sized businesses, empowering women and youth to work, and enhancing healthcare and education.
Tanzania is making significant progress toward universal accessibility to electricity by the end of the year with its rural electrification campaign, which has already connected over 64,000 towns worldwide and has another 13,000 awaiting connection.
