Tanzania has made a clear move toward the production of renewable energy by announcing plans to increase the large-scale acquisition of solar and wind energy projects. The scheme, which allows independent power providers to take part in competitive bidding, is being led by the state utility TANESCO. While additional wind sites in Makambako and Kititimo have been discovered for commercial development, flagship projects like the Kishapu Solar Power Station, which now supplies electricity to the grid, are being scaled up. Officials stress that increasing the acquisition of renewable energy will reduce expenses for homes and businesses while also stabilising the supply of electricity. Tanzania hopes to lessen its need on pricey diesel generators and unstable fuel imports by incorporating solar and wind power into the grid. In order to facilitate cross-border electricity exchange, the government is also investing in transmission infrastructure to link renewable energy plants to regional power pools.
