The Alupe University accommodation project’s constructing site has been handed over to the contractor by the National government via the State Department for Housing and Urban Development.
Leonard Marwa, an architect from the State Department for Housing and Urban Development, spoke at the site handover at Alupe University. He stated that the project, which is expected to cost Sh1.17 billion, will involve the construction of two blocks that will house 820 students in total.
When completed, the hostels will provide space for 820 students from the two blocks. According to him, this will ease traffic and address the university’s student housing problem. He went on to say that in addition to the hostels, the project, which will begin in two weeks, will have other amenities.
The project is anticipated to be finished in 18 months and would cost a total of Sh 1.17 billion. He added, “We’re going to have basketball courts, parking, and a swimming pool for the students.” According to Marwa, the block will have CCTV cameras installed and a perimeter wall built for security.
Prof. Peter Barasa, vice chancellor of Alupe University, stated that the project will allow the university to give its students better accommodations and pledged to collaborate closely with the contractors. Since they are at the border, security has remained an issue, thus Prof. Barasa also suggested that the contractor to consider erecting a permanent barrier.
According to Alupe University student leader Rony Kipkorir, the project provides reassurance for the safety and welfare of the students. As promised in the contract, Venus Construction Limited, the project contractor, promised to deliver the project on schedule and with high-quality work.
