World Vision and ABSA Support Handeni, Tanzania`s Water Project

In collaboration with World Vision Tanzania, ABSA Bank Tanzania has donated a solar-powered water well and distribution system to more than 3,800 people in Kwedizinga Village, Handeni District, Tanga Region.

The Absa-sponsored project, which is 50m in value, is a major step in addressing the long-standing issues of water scarcity and enhancing the availability of clean, dependable water for the people of Kwedizinga Village.

The project lessens dependency on non-renewable energy sources and encourages sustainable development by using solar electricity.

Improved water access is anticipated to improve community health, boost livelihoods, and contribute to better educational outcomes, especially for women and children who frequently shoulder the responsibility of water collection.

This 180-meter-deep well employs a solar-powered pump to supply water through a gravity-fed system and stores it in a 50,000-liter raised tank. Ten water collection stations are dispersed throughout the village, along with pipelines, he continued.

Clean water is not only necessary for life, but also for child safety, health, education, and economic resilience, according to Mr. James Anditi, director of World Vision Tanzania.

“Seeing every child thrive and lead a life full of opportunity and hope is our top priority,” Mr. Anditi stated.

According to Mr. Salum Nyamwese, the district commissioner for Handeni, the initiative is a prime example of successful public-private cooperation in tackling local issues.
