KDF Medical Directorate Convenes Kenya–Egypt Joint Military Committee Meeting

The Egyptian Medical Delegation attended a Joint Military Committee (JMC) meeting sponsored by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Directorate of Medical Services (DMS) at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi.

The purpose of the two-day meeting, which was presided over by Brigadier Japheth Ndegwa, Acting Director of Medical Services (DMS), and his Egyptian counterpart, Brigadier Hytham Maher, was to reaffirm the growing cooperation between the two countries. Topics of discussion included health systems, professional exchange programs, training, capacity building, and facilitation of improved medical services.

Brigadier Ndegwa stated in his introductory remarks that the meeting would serve to establish realistic, tangible strategies to translate strategic intent into actionable outcomes and that it was a clear reflection of the long-standing, strong, and strategic cooperation binding Kenya and Egypt.

He also underlined the value of teamwork, emphasizing in particular the complexity of contemporary security threats like the constant risk of war-related injuries and newly emerging infections, which call for a coordinated, efficient, and resilient medical response from medical teams.

“We can greatly improve the operational efficacy and humanitarian outreach of our military medical services in both countries by cooperating, combining our knowledge, and sharing resources. He declared, “Let’s dedicate this meeting to a fruitful and goal-oriented conversation that will create a long-lasting legacy of cooperation, health, and mutual security for our two great nations.”

Brigadier Maher, the co-chair of the Kenya-Egypt JMC, echoed his remarks about promoting cooperation and stressed the significance of a self-sufficient, effective, and streamlined medical service provision within a military establishment, citing the dynamic and unstable environment in which it operates.

He went on to discuss the significance, worth, and potential the JMC conference provided, pointing out that mutualism should be fostered not just between Egypt and Kenya but ideally throughout the African continent in order to achieve sustainable progress.

“We are extremely grateful for the chance to improve ties between our two nations since it will pave the way for mutually beneficial cooperation in a number of sectors, including health.” “We are here to listen, discuss, and agree on the implementation of collaborative endeavors that will enable the provision of better, more specialized, and efficient medical services because a healthy nation will build itself up to a great nation,” he stated.

The visit also included a tour of several KDF medical facilities, such as the level four Nairobi Regional Hospital, the level five Defence Forces Memorial Hospital (DFMH), and the Defence Forces Wellness Center (DFWC). During the tour, they were shown around the facility, its structure, the services offered, and the difficulties encountered during operations.
