Kenya is seeking to deepen cooperation with Merck Healthcare and Life Science across biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, domestic manufacturing and skills development, as the country works to build stronger local healthcare capabilities.
Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr. Ouma Oluga met with a Merck delegation headed by Dr. Frank Stangenberg-Haverkamp, Chairman of the Merck Foundation, to discuss potential investment and collaboration opportunities within Kenya’s health sector.
The talks covered ways to enhance Kenya’s biotechnology and pharmaceutical capacity, increase domestic production and develop the specialized workforce required to support a sustainable healthcare system.
Dr. Oluga highlighted the value of partnerships that facilitate technology and knowledge transfer, build local technical expertise and expand the country’s ability to produce essential healthcare products domestically.
The engagement is part of the government’s wider strategy to attract strategic investment in healthcare, encourage innovation and strengthen Kenya’s ability to meet its health needs sustainably, while building a more resilient and self-sufficient healthcare sector.
