{"id":19426,"date":"2018-12-18T05:48:20","date_gmt":"2018-12-18T05:48:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/abdas.org\/?p=19426"},"modified":"2018-12-21T11:53:42","modified_gmt":"2018-12-21T11:53:42","slug":"tanzania-funded-for-nyakanaz-kigoma-transmission-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abdas.org\/2018\/12\/18\/tanzania-funded-for-nyakanaz-kigoma-transmission-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Tanzania funded for Nyakanaz\u2013Kigoma transmission project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/abdas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Tanzania_funded.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-19427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abdas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Tanzania_funded.jpg 300w, https:\/\/abdas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Tanzania_funded-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/abdas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Tanzania_funded-272x182.jpg 272w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Tanzania has been granted a loan of $123.39 million to finance part of the country\u2019s North-West Grid 400kV Nyakanaz\u2013Kigoma power transmission line project.  <\/p>\n<p>The multilateral development finance institution, the African Development Bank (AfDB) approved the funding.<\/p>\n<p>The project aims to improve reliability, supply, and affordability of electricity in the Kigoma Region in north-western Tanzania by providing main grid access for the socio-economic transformation of the region in line with the country&#8217;s 2025 vision.<\/p>\n<p>It will increase electricity access from 16.2% to 20% in the region with over 483,000 households by 2024.  <\/p>\n<p>Audit and Consultancy services, as well as compensation and\/or resettlement of people affected by the project, will also be implemented.<\/p>\n<p>The project will be financed from three sources, the AfDB loan, the South Korea Economic Development Co-operation Fund and the government of Tanzania. The funds, which represent 66%, 24% and 10% respectively of the overall cost, is estimated at $186.12 million.<\/p>\n<p>The power transmission line project will lower energy production costs by decommissioning expensive diesel-powered plants in Kasulu and Kigoma urban centres including surrounding areas.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to enhancing job creation, the project is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in northwestern Tanzania.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, it will complement the ongoing Bank-funded 220 kV Rusumo-Nyakanazi regional transmission line including the multinational 80MW Rusumo Hydro Power Plant as well as other development partner supported energy infrastructure programmes in northwestern Tanzania.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tanzania has been granted a loan of $123.39 million to finance part of the country\u2019s North-West Grid 400kV Nyakanaz\u2013Kigoma power transmission line project.
