{"id":23522,"date":"2019-06-29T05:48:11","date_gmt":"2019-06-29T05:48:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/abdas.org\/?p=23522"},"modified":"2019-06-29T05:48:11","modified_gmt":"2019-06-29T05:48:11","slug":"coca-cola-to-invest-in-plastic-recycling-projects-across-east-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abdas.org\/2019\/06\/29\/coca-cola-to-invest-in-plastic-recycling-projects-across-east-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"Coca Cola to Invest in Plastic Recycling Projects across East Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/abdas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/coke-sustainable-future.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"375\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23523\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abdas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/coke-sustainable-future.jpg 750w, https:\/\/abdas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/coke-sustainable-future-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/abdas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/coke-sustainable-future-150x75.jpg 150w, https:\/\/abdas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/coke-sustainable-future-500x250.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/> The Sub-Saharan Sector of the Coca Cola Company will spend 3.8 billion Kenyan shillings in setting up a plastic bottle collection and recycling chain across East Africa.<\/p>\n<p>These projects are an important part of the Coca-Cola Company\u2019s World Without Waste commitment to collect and recycle 100 percent of its packaging by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>Last year Coca-cola, along with its bottling partners, formed PET recycling company Limited in Kenya, to lead projects to pick, recycle and generate a favorable climate for investment and capitalization in manufacturing and recycling of PET bottles and packaging under the PET sector.<\/p>\n<p>The plan now consists of an expansion beyond South Africa and Kenya of the group&#8217;s PET Recycling Co (PETCO) initiative, which aims to recycle 20,000 tonnes, and transfers the model to Ethiopia and Uganda.<\/p>\n<p>In Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe, Coca-Cola and its partners have spent $517 million on the market since January.<\/p>\n<p>Already several companies that use plastic bottles to pack their products have joined forces to activate the supply chain, creating jobs and creating a circular economy where PET packaging has value and life beyond its initial use.<\/p>\n<p>Several companies that use plastic bottles have already joined forces to activate the supply chain by, creating jobs and a circular economy in which PET packaging is of value and life beyond its original use.<\/p>\n<p>Coca-Cola Southern and East Africa President Bruno Pietracci in a statement on the recent developments said, \u201cWhat makes Africa different when it comes to recycling is that every bottle we collect in Africa is recycled in Africa.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ahmed Rady, General Manager, Coca-Cola East &#038; Central Africa Franchise said, \u201cWe have formulated strategies to ensure that our post-consumer plastic bottles do not pollute the environment as wastes.
