\nWith a $200 million investment, the World Bank has announced new funding for Ethiopia’s digital transformation.<\/p>\n

The organization is currently working on a new initiative named Digital Ethiopia Foundations, in which it aims to spend approximately $200 million to support the country’s digital economy.<\/p>\n

Ousmane Dione, the World Bank’s Country Director for Eritrea, Ethiopia, Southern Sudan, and Sudan, made the announcement recently.<\/p>\n

The project, according to Mr. Dione, will provide funds to improve the regulator and prepare the legal and regulatory elements of the digital environment, such as e-commerce and digital identification.<\/p>\n

The project will also help to build digital government services, as well as digital entrepreneurship and a digital response to the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

The Digital Ethiopia Foundations project is part of the Digital Ethiopia 2025 strategy, which is an important part of Ethiopia’s local economic reform program and the country’s 10-year national development plan (2020-2030), which aims to make Ethiopia a digital hub for the continent.<\/p>\n
