Kenyan Utility Vehicles Will Receive 4,000 Tembo E-LV EV Conversion Kits

Tembo e-LV B.V. and Energy Trading Company Mauritius (ETC Mauritius) have signed a Definitive Distribution Agreement to sell, distribute, and market Tembo electrification conversion kits for Toyota 44 used vehicles in the Republic of Kenya. This agreement is a significant step toward the electrification of some of the current fleet of utility vehicles in Africa.

ETC Mauritius has agreed to selling a minimum of 4,000 Tembo e-LV conversion kits across various industry sectors in Kenya from the signing of the agreement until the 31st of December 2027. ETC Mauritius will be in charge of obtaining used Toyota cars, converting them to ruggedized e-LVs using Tembo technologies, selling the units to end users, and providing after-sales repair and maintenance with Tembo assistance.

VivoPower believes that the global addressable market for used car repowering is approximately $110 billion.

VivoPower’s executive chairman and CEO, Kevin Chin, stated: “Given ETC’s lengthy and extensive links with both the Kenyan government and the commercial sector, we are thrilled to announce this distribution agreement. This partnership is a watershed moment for Tembo e-LV on two fronts: it represents our single largest commitment of future orders for Tembo e-LV conversion kits at all levels within a single country, and it heralds our entry into the used vehicle repowering market, effectively multiplying our total addressable market. We look forward to collaborating with the ETC team to bring our solutions to Kenya, aiding both the government and the commercial sector in meeting their energy transformation goals over the next five years and beyond.”

ETC Mauritius CEO Sacha E Cook stated: “We are excited to become a distributor of Tembo e-LVs in Kenya, since this will allow us to play an important part in helping our country achieve its net zero objectives by 2030. After considering several options, we decided to collaborate with Tembo to lead the way in decarbonizing critical industries such as mining, government, agriculture, and tourism across the country. We are excited to join the Tembo e-LV family and develop a strong cooperation in the next years.”
