Ethiopia expected to see an increase in demand for the timber industry over the next 20 years

Ethiopia’s timber industry is expanding, offering both chances and difficulties to improve small-scale timber production and marketing.

Ethiopia intends to link its power grid to South Africa via Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Botswana, with the goal of accessing the South African electrical market in five years.

Over the next 20 years, Ethiopia is expected to see an increase in demand for the timber industry, which presents an opportunity for the sector to expand. By planting new tree species in its current forests, plantations, and agroforestry systems as well as on degraded land, Ethiopia has the potential to boost the productivity of its timber industry.
