MSC South Africa Officially Introduces The Medlog Cold Store Facility, Revolutionising Regional Trade Dynamics

The MSC Group has established an innovative 15,000m cold storage facility in Durban. The massive cold store, which is part of MSC’s logistics business, aims to stimulate advances in the handling of perishable commodities in South Africa and elsewhere, as well as open up the country’s commercial environment.

The MSC Group operates several enterprises, including Mediterranean Shipping Company, Mediterranean Shipping Depot, MSC Logistics (MEDLOG), MSC Technical and Shosholoza Operations.

The breadth of MSC’s presence is evident in its vast network, which includes six strategically positioned locations in Durban, Cape Town, East London, Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth and Pretoria.

On March 7, 2024, MSC CEO Soren Toft hosted an inaugural event for the cold storage facility, which was attended by government authorities, business partners, clients and MSC personnel.

“This investment marks an exciting new milestone for exporters and importers of fresh produce across South Africa,” Toft stated.

“It demonstrates our continued efforts to provide value-added services to our clients while also helping to the growth of the local economy. We wish to help South Africa realise its goal of becoming sustainable, economically affluent and self-sufficient.”

The cold storage facility exemplifies excellence in infrastructure, with a capacity of 8,000 to 10,000 pallets.

The opening of the MEDLOG cold storage facility represents MSC’s long-term collaboration and investment plan for South Africa. MSC confirms its commitment to assisting South Africa’s journey towards sustainability, self-reliance and an exciting, successful future.
