Nairobi will see the opening of ten more solar-powered charging stations by Roam, a technology-driven electric mobility firm based in Kenya. The project is financed by a Horizon 2020 initiative supported by the European Union.
By providing electric motorbike users in Nairobi with reasonably priced battery rentals, optimum charging and prompt after-sales services, the project seeks to hasten the adoption of sustainable, clean transportation options.
Five Roam Hubs have already been set up by the company throughout Nairobi. It is anticipated that this will boost access to electric mobility and change urban transport into a more effective and clean system.
It said that as solar charging makes transit more affordable, the Energica initiative fits in perfectly with its objective to offer cutting-edge, low-emission transport options.
Roam stated that it hopes to establish a trustworthy, practical network for users of electric motorcycles by growing Roam Hubs in urban and peri-urban locations.
In order to facilitate communication between manufacturers of electric vehicles, the corporation will also take into account designing its charging stations with an open architecture.
By enabling charging at several sites, this will eliminate a significant obstacle to the widespread adoption of the technology.
Habib Lukaya, Product Manager of Energy & Charging at Roam, stated, “The open architecture design we’re implementing not only enables seamless interoperability but also fosters sustainable growth for electric motorcycles.”
The collaboration, which addresses pressing issues including energy access, climate change, and clean transport, is a vital link between Africa and Europe, according to Nadia Moussaid, Collaborative Project Manager at Energica.
According to Moussaid, “Roam’s solar-powered electric mobility solutions will transform urban transportation in cities like Nairobi and Kisumu, reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality.”
