The Tanzanian government has formally signed an arrangement with Italian firm SPAR for the construction of a cutting-edge stadium in Dodoma worth 352 billion, when completed, the new sports facility is going to be host to all important international tournaments, notably the Africa Cup of Nations.
Prof. Palamagamba Kabudi, Minister for Information, Education, Culture, Arts, and Sports, stated at the signing ceremony that the ultra-modern stadium will be one of Dodoma’s key landmarks, alongside the St Albans Anglican Cathedral, the Parliament Building, and the newly completed Court of Appeal.
Prof Kabudi added that the stadium, which is expected to cost 352 billion/-, is totally funded by the government, will seat 32,000 people, and will be completed within 24 months. The new stadium is part of Tanzania’s preparedness for AFCON 2027, which the country will be hosting alongside Kenya and Uganda.
Prof. Kabudi emphasised that the government is dedicated to renovating and building modern sports infrastructure that meets international standards. “As we sign this deal, I’d like to tell everyone that construction is progressing on numerous fronts. Arusha Stadium is currently 26 percent done, and the entire structure’s base will be completed by the end of the year,” he stated.
Deputy Minister Hamis Mwinjuma, for his part, disclosed that the government has constructed five training grounds in Dar es Salaam and another five in Arusha as a part of the AFCON 2027 preparations.
In addition, he stated that extensive repairs are underway at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium and Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam, as well as the construction of another cutting-edge football stadium in Arusha. He also revealed that the government has been granted permission for the construction of a modern entertainment arena in Dar es Salaam to host cultural and sporting activities.
Mwinjuma commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her ongoing support of sports, pointing out that players and officials have been greatly inspired by her public acknowledgement of team accomplishments on social media. Anthony Mavunde, a member of parliament from Dodoma, praised the president for acting swiftly to guarantee that the stadium would be constructed under close supervision from the government.
