Tanzania’s Mining Sector is on Track to Meet Its Ambitious Goal in 2025

The mining industry in Tanzania has already reached 90.2% of its aim by June 2025, putting it on track to reach its ambitious goal of collecting $1 trillion for the fiscal year 2024–2025. The industry is on track to surpass expectations with just forty-five days remaining in the current fiscal year. During a press conference in Dodoma, Minister of Minerals Anthony Mavunde announced the milestone and underscored the remarkable accomplishments of the mining industry, which is the sixth phase of the government.

Furthermore, Mavunde noted that the sector’s performance has greatly surpassed the goals set by the Five-Year National Development Plan and the 2009 Mineral Policy, both of which set a goal for the mining industry to account for 10% of Tanzania’s GDP by 2025; as of 2024, the industry’s share has already surpassed that amount, coming in at 10.1%. The mining industry made up 7.3 percent of the national GDP in 2021, 9.1 percent in 2023, and 10.1 percent in 2024. We should be proud of this,” Minister Mavunde stated. Minister Mavunde added that Tanzania’s foreign exchange profits are now significantly influenced by the mining industry, with mineral exports amounting to 3.55 billion US dollars, or 46.1 percent of the nation’s overall export value.
