Toyota’s Kenyan dealer to invest Sh572m in new facilities

CFAO Motors Kenya Limited, a Toyota dealer in Kisumu, proposes to invest $5 million (Sh572 million) in a new showroom and a body shop in Nairobi.

The Kisumu branch will have a new showroom, parts and service centre, according to the business. The construction is projected to take a year to complete.

The complex, which will be placed near to Mega City Mall on the main Nairobi-Kisumu highway corridor, would span four acres. The facility, which is planned to directly employ 70 people, will service the company’s consumers in western Kenya, including Muhoroni, Siaya, Maseno, and Kakamega.

“We are establishing a cutting-edge branch in Kisumu to better serve our clients in the Western Kenya region,” said Arvinder Reel, managing director of CFAO Motors Kenya Limited, in an interview last week.

He also stated that a portion of the investment will go toward the establishment of a new auto body business in Nairobi. The facility will repair automobiles and is slated to be operational in October.

Although it does not match international requirements, the company already has a body shop in Nairobi.

The dealership is the largest seller of new automobiles in the country, specialising in Land Cruiser, Fortuner, and Rav 4 models. Toyota sells Hino trucks in addition to its nameplate passenger cars, vans, and utility vehicles.

The company is one of the official dealers that had greater sales last year as the sector rebounded from the depths reached in 2020 as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak.

According to data from the Kenya Motor Vehicle Industry Association, new motor vehicle dealers sold 14,250 units last year, a six-year high and a 29.8 percent increase from 10,977 units sold in 2020. (KMI).
