Egypt Solar Plant To Power More Than 130000 Homes

A 200MW utility-scale solar plant is to be built in Egypt and expected to be operational by early next year.

The Kom Ombo plant will contribute to the Egyptian government’s target to generate 42 percent of the country’s electricity from renewable energy sources by year 2035.

It is also expected to deliver “one of the lowest generation tariffs In Africa.

The Kom Ombo plant will be located less than 20 kilometres from Africa’s biggest solar park, the 1,465 MW Benban complex. It is expected to be commercially operational in January 2024, said ACWA.

Once fully functional, the new utility-scale plant will serve 130,000 households.

Saudi developer ACWA Power announced on April 25th that it had signed a $123 million financing package to develop the project.
