Chinese Medical Team Honored by Zanzibar President in Tanzania

Members of the 33rd batch of the Chinese medical team received medals and commemorative certificates from Tanzania’s President Hussein Ali Mwinyi of Zanzibari in appreciation of their contributions to the country’s medical and health initiatives.

Following the team’s year-long medical services in the Indian Ocean islands, an awards ceremony was held at the Zanzibar State House.

Mwinyi expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for its exceptional support of Zanzibar’s healthcare system over the last 60 years and gave high marks to the diligent work and selfless devotion of the Chinese medical team. According to Mwinyi, the Chinese medical team aggressively taught local physicians and medical students to reserve talent for the development of Zanzibar’s medical industry while also treating local patients with cutting-edge medical equipment.

According to him, Chinese physicians made significant contributions to the development of minimally invasive laparoscopic technology in Zanzibar, allowing local physicians to create a significant advancement in laparoscopic technology from the ground up.

The head of the medical team, Jiang Guoqing, stated that the Chinese medical team will keep enhancing health exchanges and collaboration with Zanzibar, offering the locals top-notch medical care, and making greater contributions to the friendship between China and Africa.

When the 33rd group of Chinese doctors arrived in Zanzibar in September of last year, they conducted 20 extensive free clinics and treated close to 40,000 outpatients.

In 1964, China started sent medical teams to Zanzibar.
